Cricket is a super game

but not so super in the rain

I thought a cricket was a bug

Until I played upon the rug

With Grandpa and his cricket bat.

I really know now where its at.

Smasher Soloman

A ball is bowled along the grass

And batsmen must not let it pass

But strike it to the boundary

To score four runs or run for three.

The ball is leather, round and hard,

The batsman must be on his guard

With legs protected to the knee

In case the ball strikes painfully.

Jabber Jones

Basher Bloggs

In big matches, it is said:

"Wear a hat upon your head.

In case the ball should bounce that high

The hat deflects it from your eye."

"A good strong pair of gloves please choose

And then your fingers will not bruise

Should they be struck by flying leather.

Gloves keep you warm in colder weather."

If playing Grandpa in the garden

Before you bowl please beg his pardon.

Explain how he should concentrate

And not hit the ball beyond the gate.

If he is dreamy on that day,

Before you bowl just call out "Play!"

Then, if he is enough alert,

Bowl gently and he won't get hurt.

Grandpa Green

Nervous Nigel

Now Nigel Noggins has it wrong.

He should not stand that way for long.

The bowler, when he's playing cricket,

Must be allowed to see the wicket.

So move please, Nigel, show your stump

Before you give the ball a thump

Then, when your swinging strike is done,

Trot down the pitch to score your run.

Wacker Willis has it right

The cricket stumps are well in sight

So Pitcher Potts can bowl his best

And let the fielders do the rest.

When Wacker strikes the ball up high

The fielders run and jump to try

From in the air the ball to snatch

And get him out with brilliant catch.

Wicket Keeper

Now meet the bravest of them all

The man who never fears the ball.

At wicket keeping no-one can

Stop the ball like Daring Dan.

If the bowler's ball should miss the bat,

Standing behind with gloves and hat

Our Dan will catch the batsman out:

"Howzat!" We hear the whole team shout.
