Daring Dan, my baseball hero!

When Daring Dan was six years old

He joined the baseball team.

He hit so hard, he ran so quick,

His pitching was a dream.

Walloping Dan

They put him in at number four

For he could hit the ball

High in the air and far away

Beyond the Big Boys School.

The big match came, Dan's team was first

To stand and swing the bat.

And Little Herbert took the pad

Wearing his baseball hat.

The pitcher threw an angry ball

Towards young Herbert's face.

The brave lad caught it on his bat

And ran to second base.

Look out Herbert!

Ginger was a Southpaw

Next stepped up Ginger (Freckles) Brown,

A southpaw, like young Dan,

For he could hit a lightning ball

As well as any man.

The leather ball came fast and true

It whistled like a train,

But Freckles stopped it with his bat:

"No thanks. Please try again."

So Pitcher Potts tried one more time

And Freckles struck it well

Deep into the outer field.

"Look Out!" they heard him yell.

He walked to first base quietly,

He was not one to hurry.

He knew with Daring Dan to come

There was no need to worry.

Smasher Smith

Smasher Smith

Next Man In

Smasher Smith was next man in.

He was a lefty too.

When Pitcher Potts threw his first ball

It bounced on Smasher's shoe.

The next two balls were fast and straight

But Smasher let them by.

He cracked the third ball with his bat;

It soared into the sky.

Smasher runs

The fourth man in was Daring Dan.

It was time to have some fun.

With three men on the bases

He must hit a good home run.

Poor Pitcher Potts would do his best

To see that Dan was out.

He threw with all his vigorous zest

But Dan gave it such a clout.

Above the net the ball would fly.

It was lost, to tell the truth.

They found it in the winter

Up on the Big Boys roof.

Dan was not a Southpaw on Fridays

Daring Dan scored a

home run

Dennis was good at Tennis

So the home team won the game that day.

Their pitcher's name was Dennis.

He always pitched up fast and true

And could beat our Dan at tennis.

Big Brother was captain of the school baseball team.

We are proud of our big brother
