The Hippo family have moved to London Zoo

Grandpa Hip is Oh, so proud!

He likes to read these tales aloud

About his friends and family,

Most of whom are known to me.

He likes to wear a coat and tie

And laughs until his tears run dry

When watching grandsons at their swim.

Most of whom were taught by him.

I am proud of my family

The world's best diver

There is no doubting who will be

The world's best diver. Here you see

Young Matthew Hip who dives from high

Above the water, near the sky.

He speeds down like a lightning flash

And ripples through with scarce a splash.

The fish below dart off in fear

Now an expert swimmer's near.

Another grandson, guess his name,

Often to the water came

But, being a mere youngster yet,

Was disinclined to get too wet

So stood beneath a shady tree

To watch the Hippo family

Enjoy their watery fun each day

Before he went off home to play.

I only swim on Sundays

I can skip

His little playmate, name of Rose,

Is very light upon her toes

And full of fun and mischief too.

I think she wears a nineteen shoe.

Nature books tell of Miss Rose Hip,

The only hippo known to skip.

She skips her best in dancing pumps

And once did twenty-seven jumps.

They do not all behave so well.

A witch has cast a magic spell

On Baby Hip who roars and screams

Until he's had six large ice-creams.

Then, when he feels a little stronger,

His shouts and yells become much longer

Until sleep fells him from his seat

And lets him dream of things to eat.

Bring me my din-din

Yippee,yippee. I'm the dancing hippy

Dorothy goes to dancing classes.

At school she wears some special glasses

To help her get the colors right.

She cannot tell her yellow from white.

But she has music in her blood

And, sitting in the river mud,

Will fill our hearts with great delight

Singing to us every night.

Now Daddy Hip is very smart

And will not let the mealtime start

Until, with ever smiling face,

He says a quiet mealtime Grace,

And then he eats like sixteen horses,

Double rations all four courses.

There's no-one eats as well as Dad,

Except for Baby, when he's bad.

I keep this family in order

Is this mine or yawn?

The Hippo family, at the Zoo,

Always has so much to do

That every day goes quickly by

And each one has to shut an eye.

See Dan Hip ready for his bed

With lots of sleep inside his head?

Before the moon has gone away

Tomorrow comes and he will play.

There are lots of Hippos in the wild

Who have never seen a friendly child.

We must remember wild one's too

When we see our friends down at the zoo.

Orphan George, now a senior,

As a baby came from Kenya.

He thinks this lady is his Mummy.

He loves it when she slaps his tummy.

What a beautiful Hippo you are, you are
