Down
in Madagascar
With
Africa nearby,
Many
strange things happen
And
I sometimes wonder why.
Whenever
I sit down to work
There's
trouble, without fail.
When
I start plotting numbers
I
get a mouse upon my tail |
 |
|
 |
Now I am very little
And I always
will be small.
The monkeys say
rude things to me.
They are not
kind at all.
They say:
"Let us wear your fuzzy wig.
"Your
beard we'd like to try on."
They do not
know, how can they know,
I am handsome
as a lion.
|
|
Madagascar has
no cats
Nor any feline mammal.
No unicorn, no elephant
And certainly
no camel.
So I am just
the nearest thing
If you like to
have a pussy.
I don't
meeyouw. At nights I sing.
So kindly
don't be fussy. |
 |
|
 |
The
others say I don't belong.
They
push me and they pumel.
They
say that I am no lemur;
I
am a ring-tailed rumel.
I'd
like to go to Africa
But
I would miss my friend,
A
splendid chap called Scrawny.
Where
will this story end? |
|
I am a scrawny monkey.
I sit up in the trees
And feel among
my scrawny fur
For delicious
scrawny fleas.
I share them
with my special friends.
We like to
groom each other,
But the very
best fleas in all the world
Are on my
monkey brother. |
 |
|
 |
Now coconuts
are tricky things
And very good
to eat.
If you are a gorilla
You can crush
them with your feet.
But if you're
not strong the trick must be
To strike with
lightning speed.
Hit it with
your baseball bat
And then begin
to feed. |
|
The
prettiest creature on this Isle,
I am proud
to say: "I am he,"
Is the
Madagascan Ringtail.
Handsome as
can be!
Many come
for many a mile
Just to
take our picture.
We are such
special animals
We make the
whole world richer.

 |
Not a Monkey,
not a Lemur,
But a little
bit of both.
I am a lazy fellow.
I'm called the
Three Toed Sloth.
I sleep up in
the tree tops
And watch my
favorite channel.
I enjoy the
finer things of life:
M&Ms and
Captain Dannel. |
