As
Spring came to the polar ice
Our
two friends thought it would be nice
To
pack their bags and go away
For
a happy holiday.
They
made some plans and off they went.
I
will tell you how their Spring was spent. |
|
They
took a 'plane to Vikingland,
Sat
in a viking boat
Pretending
they were viking lords
On
a viking castle moat.
'Tis
not hard to be a viking bold
If
you, like them, don't feel the cold. |
 |
|
 |
They
caught a train to Germany
And
wore the local dress
When
singing lots of German songs
Whose
words they had to guess.
They
found the local people
Were
ever full of cheer
For
Germany is the very place
That
makes the world's best beer. |
|
Next
they went to Switzerland
To
climb the mountains high
And
Polar made a yodel call
That
echoed round the sky.
Zipper
tried the holey cheese
That
Swissmen love to eat.
He
ate it with Swiss crackers
To
give himself a treat. |
 |
|
 |
Off
they went to England
To
famous London City
And
Zipper took a guardsman's hat
Which
made him look quite pretty.
Polar
took some photographs
To
record the London scene
But,
though he looked about him,
He
did not see the Queen. |
|
When
Polar went to Rhinoland.
His
camera at the ready,
He
found a baby rhino
And
said: "Smile please, keep steady."
The
baby rhino smiled.
Alas,
not so his mum.
Down
went her head, up came her horn
And
biffed him in the tail.

Deep
in the Savannah
Where
prides of lions roam,
Zipper
took a picture
To
show the folk back home.
The
lions were not angry
To
see these strangers there.
It
is not smart to be angry
With
a grown-up Polar Bear. |
|
They
flew the deep Pacific
To
a great volcanic isle.
They
splashed about the seaside
And
rested for a while.
Then,
wearing native costume
Of
grassy skirt and flowers,
They
watched the Hoola-hoola girls
And
danced with them for hours. |
 |
|
 |
Back
they went to Africa
Along
the river Nile
And
then across the desert
For
many a sandy mile.
At
last they saw a Pyramid
Pointing
to the sky.
They
said: "We don't much care for that!"
Before
they said goodbye. |
|
It
was time to send a postcard
To
all their friends at home
So
they sent a special photograph
And
posted it from Rome.
They
did not stay in Italy,
It
made poor Zipper sneezy,
But
as they sailed they gave a wave
To
the leaning tower of Peezy. |
 |
|
 |
Now
Zipper's grandad had been there
When
he was a young sailier,
But
a Polar Bear is very rare
In
the great land of Australia.
They
learned to do the kangy hop
As
if propelled by rocket.
The
kangaroo who taught them
Had
no Joey in his pocket.
|
|
Their
next stop was Old Zealand,
Which
they happened on by chance,
And
Polar showed a Kiwi
The
proper way to dance.
But
Kiwi did not like it much,
Though
too polite to grumble.
He
said: "You know, we kiwi birds
Are
very, very humble." |
 |
|
 |
Back
to their home continent
The
intrepid two returned.
From
their many grand adventures
A
great deal had been learned.
We
see them here in Mexico
On
a donkey going forth
Towards
the good old U.S.A.
Somewhere
in the North. |
|
At
last they are in Canada,
Not
so far from home.
They've
almost been around the world.
Their
journey's nearly done.
They
have taken lots of pictures
In
their exploring role
Now
they must find a taxi
To
take them to the Pole. |
